Mumbai is blessed with one of the finest water fronts in the world. Everywhere in the world, residences with a sea & beach view are the most expensive and sought after. Mumbai is no different. And yet if one actually ventures on to the beach or in the water for that matter,... you need to have a good bath on your return.
Most of Mumbai’s millions and millions tons of sewage is just released into the sea untreated. Plastic bags and other floating material is part of your bath in the sea.
But now, the city’s beaches and waterfronts will get cleaner over the next few years as the BMC plans to build more plants to treat sewage before releasing it into the sea under the second phase of the Rs5,200-crore Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project (MSDP). It should be up and running in a year they promise.
When will our beaches be beautiful places to have an evening stroll, a clean place for our children to splash in or to just justify the mind boggling rates charged for a sea facing home.
